Atelier dell’Errore creates official image for Art Day Italy 2025

Atelier dell’Errore, the renowned collective of neurodivergent creators, has been selected to design the official image for the 21st edition of Contemporary Art Day (Giornata del Contemporaneo), the major national event dedicated to contemporary art in Italy and abroad. Promoted by AMACI – the Association of Italian Contemporary Art Museums – the 2025 edition will take place on Saturday, October 4, with exhibitions, performances, workshops, talks, and installations held across Italy and internationally until October 10.

Since its inception in 2005, Contemporary Art Day has celebrated the vitality of the Italian art scene, showcasing the work of both Italian artists and international artists through a widespread, inclusive, and free event. Supported by Italy’s Ministry of Culture (MIC) and the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MAECI), this initiative unites the 26 AMACI museums with over 1,000 independent cultural spaces, fostering cross-disciplinary engagement through contemporary art.

A Focus on “Formation” for 2025

The theme of the 2025 edition is Formation – interpreted as a dynamic, cross-disciplinary process that bridges education, research, and the transmission of knowledge. This year’s focus invites audiences and participants to reconsider the connections between art and life, experience and learning, with a special emphasis on the transformative power of artistic practice.

Unknown Pleasures – The Shelter: A Powerful Image for a Collective Message

The guiding image for Contemporary Art Day 2025 is Unknown Pleasures – The Shelter (2025), a compelling and delicate work by Atelier dell’Errore (AdE). Born from a unique creative process, the piece reuses the monumental sail “Ade Vela Rapido,” originally made from 50 emergency blankets and associated with Pier Paolo Pasolini’s boat used in Oedipus Rex. During restoration, two artists from the collective transformed the sail into a temporary emotional architecture – a shelter symbolizing an intimate and concrete desire for emotional freedom.

Founded in Reggio Emilia in 2015 within the Maramotti Collection, Atelier dell’Errore has evolved from a therapeutic art lab into a professional and independent cooperative. Under the artistic direction of Luca Santiago Mora, the collective works collaboratively, embracing neurodiversity and turning “errors” into generative creative forces. Their signature style centers on fantastical animals and unconventional forms, gaining recognition from prestigious contemporary art institutions such as GAMeC, Galleria Continua, MASSIMODECARLO, and Kaufmann Repetto – which hosted AdE’s first solo exhibition in the U.S. in 2025.

A Celebration of Contemporary Art, Italian Artists, and Global Creativity

Contemporary Art Day 2025 is more than a celebration – it’s a statement. It highlights how contemporary art serves as a vital and inclusive language for exploring complex themes. The selection of AdE’s work reflects a deep alignment with the event’s emphasis on education and transformation, while honoring the collaborative spirit that defines both Italian artists and the broader community of international artists.

Whether you’re a long-time art lover or new to the scene, Contemporary Art Day offers a unique opportunity to explore the world of contemporary art through inspiring exhibitions and creative encounters across Italy and beyond.
