21-26 April at Fiera Milano Rho with more than 1,900 exhibitors

The Salone del Mobile looks ahead to 2026 having already reached a major milestone: complete sell-out. Achieved well in advance, this result reflects not only the strength of one of the most influential fairs on the international stage, but also its ability to evolve into a cultural platform where art, design and exhibition intersect with industry and society. From 21 to 26 April 2026, within the spaces of Fiera Milano Rho, more than 1,900 exhibitors from 32 countries will fully occupy 169,000 square meters of net exhibition area, reaffirming Milan’s central role as a global hub for contemporary design.

The figures, significant as they are, tell only part of the story. With 36.6% of exhibitors coming from abroad, the fair confirms its increasingly international dimension, capable of withstanding economic and geopolitical uncertainty. Alongside long-established brands, 227 companies—new entries and returning exhibitors—contribute to shaping a dynamic ecosystem able to respond to market transformations and anticipate emerging design sensibilities. Within this context, the Salone strengthens its role as a privileged observatory on the evolution of design, understood as a practice that brings together aesthetics, function and cultural vision.

A cultural hub between diplomacy and international vision

The 2026 edition is part of a broader strategy for the 2026–2027 biennium, aimed at making the complexity of the offer more legible while reinforcing the fair’s curatorial dimension. In a globally unstable scenario, Salone del Mobile President Maria Porro has emphasized the fair’s value as a stable point of reference, capable of connecting industry, culture and international relations. Following initiatives already launched in Europe, international missions will continue to expand toward strategic countries such as the United States and India, before extending to new areas of dialogue across the Mediterranean and the Middle East.

This openness is also reflected in a strengthened relationship with the art world. After collaborations initiated in the United States, the Salone continues its engagement with major international exhibition platforms, exploring boundary territories where design and visual culture intersect. The aim is to build alliances capable of expanding audiences and redefining the value of objects as narrative and symbolic devices, not merely functional products.

Key sections and new exhibition platforms

Within the fair, the 2026 format confirms its historic pillars. The Biennials EuroCucina and FTK – Technology For the Kitchen return, continuing to showcase technological innovation applied to domestic spaces, with growing attention to sustainability and the integration of design into everyday life. SaloneSatellite, meanwhile, reaffirms its experimental vocation by welcoming 700 designers under 35 and 23 international schools and universities. The chosen theme, Craftsmanship + Innovation, brings together manual expertise and technological research, highlighting how the future of design lies in the critical reinterpretation of tradition.

Among the most anticipated novelties is the debut of Salone Raritas, a section dedicated to collectible design hosted in pavilions 9–11. Curated by Annalisa Rosso and designed by Formafantasma, this platform brings together 25 selected exhibitors and positions itself as a meeting point between exceptional creative production and a professional demand increasingly attentive to the cultural value of objects. An exhibition that approaches design as a form of research and collecting, explicitly drawing it closer to the sphere of contemporary art.

Looking ahead: contract, sustainability and the urban system

The Salone’s gaze is also firmly set on the medium term. The path toward Salone Contract—scheduled to officially debut in 2027—takes shape already in 2026 through a program of meetings, international forums and moments of reflection. The masterplan for the new project is signed by Rem Koolhaas and David Gianotten, underscoring an approach that interweaves architecture, design and urban strategies.

Sustainability remains a structural axis of the entire event. The renewal of ISO 20121 certification for the 2026–2028 period confirms a long-term commitment to reducing environmental impact and promoting responsible practices. In this sense, design is understood as a system of thought capable of generating both economic and cultural value, as also reflected in industry data: in 2025, production turnover reached €52.2 billion, marking growth compared to the previous year.

Finally, the connection with Milan is renewed through a constellation of citywide initiatives that transform the city into a vast cultural stage. From the opening evening at La Scala to the return of urban installations and projects, and the involvement of more than 200 showrooms during Design Week, Salone del Mobile 2026 confirms itself not merely as a trade fair, but as a total exhibition experience—one in which art, design and culture come together to shape a shared narrative of the present and the future of design.
