Between Perception and Illusion: Marble Works Transforming Wood, Fire and Industrial Matter, by Valeria Vaccaro
Burnt pallets, worn transport crates and industrial remnants are transformed into marble contemporary sculptures that blur perception and illusion. At first glance they appear as ordinary, fire-damaged wooden objects, yet they reveal themselves as cold, solid marble, executed with impeccable technical precision.
Valeria Vaccaro explores the boundary between perception and deception, using fire as a symbolic and alchemical force of transformation. Her Carrara marble sculptures plays on contradiction—wood that is not wood, containers that become artworks—creating a perceptual short circuit that challenges our understanding of material, value and contemporary art.

Valeria Vaccaro was born in Turin in 1988. After attending the Art School, she studied sculpture at the Albertina Academy of Fine Arts in Turin. Since 2005 she has regularly exhibited in solo and group exhibitions in Italy, France, Germany, England and Montenegro and participates in trade fairs. Between 2013 and 2015 she participated in the JCE Jeune Création Européenne traveling European Biennial. In 2015 he exhibited at Exhibit in Turin and at the Museum of Contemporary Art of the Castello di Rivara. In 2017, on the occasion of the CBM Art Prize, she won a special mention from the city of Turin. In the same year she was among the winners of the 2017 ArTeam Cup. In 2021 she was selected to exhibit some of her marble sculptures at BAG Bocconi Art Gallery in Milan. In 2022 she won the second prize of the IX edition of the VAF Collection Artistic Award.
